Care & Tips

Among the many advantages of hardwood floors is their ease of care.
Below are some suggestions to help you maintain your hardwood floors .

The most regular care you can give hardwood floors is to sweep them with a soft bristle broom or dust them with a dry microfiber mop.  They can be vacuumed using the bare floor setting on your vacuum cleaner.  If your floors have beveled edges, it is advisable to use a vacuum without a beater bar (rotating brush).

Spills should be treated quickly with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirty areas, use a glass cleaner. It is always best to apply cleaning action in the direction of the wood grain.

Contrary to convention, it is not advisable to use a wet mop with oil soap or any wax treatment product.  Doing so can cause added slipperiness and dull the finish. Never use a steam mop, which can dull the finish and damage the wood. Never use vinegar as a cleanser as the acid can etch the finish and make it dull.

  • Apply felt protectors to the bottom of chair and table legs to prevent scuffing.
  • Avoid walking on the floor with cleats or sharp, high-heeled shoes.
  • Lift furniture when moving it over wooden floors.
  • Place area rugs in high-traffic locations and in areas where water is used
